DESCRIPTION:The Art of Bonsai embodies the Japanese spirit with philosophy and aesthetics harmonizing and complimenting each other. Bonsai is more than just an art form – it is a way of life and thinking; a way of cultivating patience\, nobility\, and sympathy – and this is the reason why bonsai is important for Japanese culture. Therefore\, to understand bonsai\, you must learn and understand each of its core values ​​in order to experience it with a calm and open mind. \nExplore Gresham Japanese Garden’s Art of Bonsai workshop with Mark Vossbrink. Each month will be a different project in creating your own bonsai. The $40.00 cost includes all materials. A show and tell is part of the workshop\, so feel free to bring one of your pieces from home. \nPlease bring your own pruners or snippers. \nCost: $40 per class\n2023 Dates: Third Thursday or third Saturday of the month.\nTime: 1pm – 3pm\nPlace: The Gresham Japanese Garden’s Kyoudou Center\, the building at the south end of Main City Park. There is a parking lot near the building.

SUMMARY:Pruning lace-leaf maples for character
DESCRIPTION:Many people care for Japanese maple trees on their property\, especially lace-leaf maples. One of the most popular\, Acer palmatum var. dissectum ‘Crimson Queen’. This pruning course is offered after the trees new growth has flushed out to get maximum learning opportunities. Lincoln Proud will focus on the fundamentals of pruning as it pertains to lace-leaf maples and other dissectums. \nThe class will begin with a short lecture on basic botany and growth habits as it pertains to dissectum Japanese maples in Gresham Japanese Garden’s newly remodeled Kyoudou Center. After that\, students will go into the Japanese garden (Tsuru Island) to learn how the pruning fundamentals are applied to various circumstances\, and how to apply this information to your own trees. \nThere will be time at the end for questions and answers.
